About Anwar al-Aulaqi
Anwar al-Aulaqi was an American-Yemeni imam and Islamic teacher who gained notoriety after he was accused by the United States government of recruiting terrorists as well as planning terrorist activities for the terrorist group al-Qaeda. He was killed in 2011 in a U.S. drone strike in Yemen.
Personal Life
He was married to two women at the time of his death. He fathered five children, including Abdulrahman al-Awlaki.
Trivia
With his death in 2011, he made history by becoming the first citizen of the United States to be killed in a U.S. drone strike.
Two weeks after his death, his 16-year-old son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki was also killed in Yemen in another armed C.I.A. airstrike drone.
