About Art Carney
After appearing on a number of radio programs, Art Carney made his acting debut in 1941 when he played a minor role in the comedy film titled “Pot o' Gold” alongside James Stewart, and Paulette Goddard.
The multiple award-winning American actor gained international recognition for his Ed Norton role in the famous television series entitled “The Honeymooners”. He was also used in a number of Broadway productions. He made his debut in 1957 and went on to appear in loads of stage plays like “The Odd Couple” and “Lovers”.
Family
His parents Edward Michael Carney and Helen Farrell played significant roles in his development. His five brothers were named Jack, Phil, Ned, Robert, and Fred. The actor married Jean Myers in 1940, but they went their separate ways in 1965. They had three kids named Paul, Brian, and Eileen. He later married Barbara Isaac before reuniting with Jean in 1980.
Education
Carney had his education at A.B. Davis High School.
Decorations
He won the Academy Awards' “Best Actor” prize for his Harry Coombes role in the 1974 film “Harry and Tonto”. He also received a Golden Globe Award for the same role. Some awards that he received were the National Society of Film Critics Award, and the Pasinetti Award.
He was also inducted into some halls of fame including the Television Hall of Fame, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Trivia
Before rising to fame, he was a singer with a Horace Heidt-led orchestra.
"Art Carney's Dream", a song on The Swirling Eddies’ 1994 album titled “Zoom Daddy”, was to honor the actor.
