Background
Bailey graduated from Florida State University with a PhD degree in English. He had earlier earned an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University. He was raised in a Mississippi household of farmers and preachers.
Career Facts
His poems have been featured in journals such as Meridian, Epiphany, New York Quarterly and the Ocean State Review. The poet taught various writing courses in New York University Florida State University. In 2003, he published the anthropology, “In Our Own Words: A Generation Defining Itself.”
Bailey received fellowships from Florida State University and Valparaiso Foundation in Spain. Notable among his poems are “Hallows,” “Sugar Hill” “Down Exit Ramp" and “Garden.”
Recognition
He was honored with the John MacKay Shaw Academy of American Poetry award.
