Bernard Cornwell is an award-winning British author who writes historical novels and the "Waterloo Campaign" history. Cornwell is best known for his works on King Alfred and England's history and the stories of the Napoleonic Wars.
Early Life & Education
Cornwell is originally from London. However, he grew up in Thundersley, Essex, with his family. He has stated that growing up, he rejected every religion and became a strong atheist.
He graduated with a B.a in history from the University of London in 1966. Cornwell then became a full-time teacher after graduating.
Works
Cornwell's novel series "The Sharpe series" was adapted by the ITV network and made into the television films series "Sharpe" in 1993.
In 2004, Cornwell released another great historical novel titled "The Last Kingdom." Again, the book was used by BBC for the 2015 television series, "The Last Kingdom."
In 2010, he published his standalone novel "The Fort," which gave Americans great insight into the 1779 Penobscot Expedition of the American Revolutionary War.
Cornwell has sold over 30 million books and is one of the most successful British authors.
Honors
In 2016, he became an officer of the Order of the British Empire, when he was included in the Queen's Birthday Honors List.
