About Bob Fosse
Bob Fosse was an American dancer, actor, musical-theatre choreographer, filmmaker and theatre director.
He started his career as a dancer in 1947 on the national tour stages of the revue, “Call Me Mister”. His acting debut followed in 1951 on Broadway through an appearance in the musical, “Million Dollar Baby”. Three years later, he started taking offers as a choreographer for Broadway productions.
He is remembered for having directed films such as “All That Jazz”, “Cabaret” and “Sweet Charity”.
Family Life
His father, Cyril Kingsley Fosse was Norwegian American while his mother, Sarah Alice was Irish American. He had five siblings. He was married three times. His ex-wives included dancers Mary Ann Niles and Joan McCraken. He and his third wife, actress Gwen Verdon separated in 1971 but never divorced.
Achievements
He became the first actor to win a Tony, an Oscar and an Emmy within a single year (1973).
Death
He died on September 23, 1987 of a heart attack.
