About Bob Pettit
Former NBA star Bob Pettit was the first player to win the league’s Most Valuable Player Award after he received the accolade in 1956. He spent his whole playing career with the Milwaukee/St. Louis Hawks (now known as the Atlanta Hawks) where he won the championship in 1958.
Mostly used as a power forward, the American basketball legend is considered as one of the greatest players to operate in that position.
Post retirement
Pettit has worked in the banking and finance sector after ending his playing career. He’s one of the founders of the consulting firm called Equitas Capital Investors.
Personal Life
He lost his wife in 2010. The couple had three kids together.
Education
He developed a love for basketball when he was at Baton Rouge High School. During his time at Louisiana State University, Pettit was regarded as one of the top rising stars in the country.
Achievements
In his time in the NBA, he won the “Rookie of the Year” and two MVP awards. The Atlanta Hawks have retired his number nine jersey. In 1970, he was selected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He’s one of the few basketball players to be named in the NBA’s four anniversary teams.
He is the first player to record 50 points in a single playoff finals game.
