About Dmitri Mendeleev
Dmitri Mendeleev was a renowned Russian inventor and chemist who is best remembered as the brain behind the formulation and arrangements of the chemical elements on the periodic table, as well as, the originator of the Periodic Law.
Mendeleev was also a founding member of Russia’s maiden oil refinery. In 1892, he became a Foreign Member of the Royal Society.
He was also recognized by other science associations including Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the Russian Academy of Sciences. He also helped to found the Russian Chemical Society in 1869.
Family
He is the son of Maria Dmitrievna Mendeleeva and Ivan Pavlovich Mendeleev. He grew up together with thirteen other siblings. He married Feozva Nikitichna Leshcheva in 1862 but divorced in 1871. He later married Anna Ivanova Popova in 1882.
Achievements
In 1906, he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his outstanding work.
Trivia
He’s credited for introducing the Russian Empire to the metric system of measurement.
