About Donie Bush
American professional baseball player Owen Joseph "Donie" Bush was a right-handed shortstop who rose to fame while playing for the Detroit Tigers.
Career
Bush began his professional career as a starting shortstop for the Detroit Tigers in 1908. The baseball player was recognized as one of the best defensive shortstops of the dead-ball era and played for more than 15 years with the Detroit Tigers. He later moved on to join the Washington Senators in 1921 and played until his retirement in 1923.
Career as a Manager
Donie Bush left a highly successful career as a player to make an impact as a manager in the world of baseball. The first team he managed professionally was the Washington Senators right after his retirement in 1923. He also managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1927 to 1929 and later took charge of the Chicago White Sox from 1930 to 1931. The baseball player finally managed the Cincinnati Reds in 1933.
Achievements
Bush finished third in the 1914 MVP voting and also Led AL in plate appearances 5 times – in 1909, 1913–1915 and 1918.
