About Fernando Haddad
Fernando Haddad is a popular Brazilian politician who was appointed as the country’s Minister for Education in 2005. After serving for seven years, Haddad was elected as São Paulo’s mayor in 2013. During his time in office, he expanded the city’s bike lanes. Despite his successes, the politician faced some difficulties from the locals. His intention to increase transport fares in 2013 was met by a widespread demonstration.
In 2018, after Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was barred from contesting in the presidential elections, Haddad was selected as the flagbearer for the Workers' Party. His bid was unsuccessful as he lost to Jair Bolsonaro.
Family
He was raised by his parents Teresa Gousain and Khalil Haddad alongside two siblings. The politician has been married to Ana Estela Haddad. The couple exchanged their marital vows in 1988.
Education
Haddad attended the University of São Paulo’s Law School.
