About Fletcher Christian
Fletcher Christian joined the Royal Navy at the age of 17 years. He was later made a midshipman and was later added to the crew aboard the HMS Eurydice, where he was as a Master's Mate. He left the navy after the ship returned to Britain from India.
In 1787, he joined the HMS Bounty ship under the leadership of Lieutenant William Bligh. Christian was assigned to the master's mate position. Two years later, while on their way to Tahiti, he seized control of the ship in what would be known as the ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’.
After the mutiny, he, alongside 25 others, settled on Pitcairn Island where he lived until his death.
Family
His parents were Charles Christian and Ann Dixon, and he was the younger brother of English law professor Edward Christian. His other brother was called Humphrey.
He was married to Mauatua 'Isabella' Christian, and was survived by three kids named Thursday October Christian, Mary Ann Christian, and Charles Christian.
Trivia
Mel Gibson played his character in the 1984 film “The Bounty”.
