About Francisco de Miranda
Francisco de Miranda was one of the earliest people to fight for the liberation and unification of Spanish America. Though his initial plan failed to materialize, the Venezuelan military capo developed a blueprint which was aimed at uniting the Spanish colonies in the Americas.
During his military service, he participated in many battles including the American Revolutionary War, and the French Revolution. In 1812, he became Venezuela’s Supreme Chief.
Family
He spent his early years with his parents Francisca Antonia and Sebastian de Miranda Ravelo. He had two kids with Sarah Andrews named Francisco, and Leandro.
Education
Miranda studied at the Academy of Santa Rosa before enrolling at the Royal and Pontifical University of Caracas.
Death
He was handed over to the Spanish forces by a group led by Simón Bolívar. After four years in custody, Miranda died.
Trivia
He was known by many aliases including ‘The Great Universal American’ and ‘The Precursor’.
He was taught by Juan Santaella, and Jorge Lindo.
