About Frederick Banting
Frederick Banting began his medical practice in the 1920s. During that period, he lectured at the famous University of Toront, and the University of Western Ontario. After reading about diabetes and developing an interest in it, the Canadian physician, with help from Charles Best and J. J. R. Macleod discovered insulin as a means of treating diabetes. They started their research in 1920 and by the end of 1922, Banting had started treating patients with the disorder.
Other works
Though he was a renowned scientist, Banting was also good in arts. His love for painting started in 1921 and produced many eye-catching works. His sketches and paintings made him one of the top amateur painters in Canada.
Family
He was one of the children of Margaret Grant and William Thompson Banting, and grew up together with four siblings. His 1924 marriage to Marion Robertson produced a son named William. Their union ended in 1932. Five years later, he married fellow physician Henrietta Ball.

Banting studied at the University of Toronto.
Accolades
Banting was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1923 alongside Macleod. He was also decorated with the Cameron Prize for Therapeutics of the University of Edinburgh, and the Flavelle Medal. King George V knighted him in 1934.
Trivia
In 1915, he became a member of the army and participated in the Battle of Cambrai three years later.
