The Italian author and novelist Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa was popularly known as “The last Prince of Lampedusa”.He rose to fame after the posthumous publishing of his novel "Il Gattopardo".
Growing Up
The author was the son of Beatrice Mastrogiovanni Tasca di Cutò and Giulio Maria Tomasi. Lampedusa grew up loving the world of literature. His interest in writing and reading began at an early age, especially after he was read the novels of Emilio Salgari by his grandmother. He attended the Liceo Classico in 1911, graduated, and pursued law by enrolling in jurisprudence in 1915.
Career in Literature
Lampedusa's love for literature was quite intense. He wrote many unpublished pieces but what raised him to many years of fame was his piece "Il Gattopardo" in 1958. The book was later adapted into a film in 1963 and was directed by Luchino Visconti.
Personal Life
He married Alexandra von Wolff-Stomersee in 1932. He died in 1952 after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
