Hans Blix is highly regarded for his immense contributions to the international community, especially in the nuclear and atomic energy field.
Career
The Swedish diplomat began his international career as a member of the Swedish delegation to the United Nations in 1961 and he served until 1981. Within that period, he was made the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden (1978-1979). His most notable international offices include the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (1981-1997) and the inaugural Executive Chairman of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission.
Family Life
His grandfather, Magnus Blix, was a popular physiologist and his father, Gunnar Blix was a chemist and chemistry professor. His mother’s name was Hertha Wiberg. He married Eva Kettis in 1962 and had two sons.
Achievements
His honors include the Illis quorum, Sydney Peace Prize and the Fulbright Prize.
Trivia
He was appointed as the UAE’s nuclear power program’s advisory board head.
