Personal Life
Henning Georg Mankell was the son of a lawyer who later became a judge. He lived with his father together with his sister after their parents separated. As a teenager, he loved working in ships and decided to abandon school for Paris and then got a job on a cargo ship.
Career
Experience in Paris made him realize he had so much he could write about, this made him start writing at Riksteatern and moved on to different theatres. Not long after, he released the novel “The Stone Blaster”. His success in the writing world began when he started a theatre in Mozambique. He then started working on “The Kurt Wallender Mystery Novels” which became a favorite to many people and also made him popular.
Death
In 2004, doctors did their best to help save him from throat and lung cancer but he was able to live for two more years before passing away.
