About Herbert Spencer
Herbert Spencer was an English philosopher, biologist, anthropologist, and sociologist.
A contemporary of Charles Darwin, Herbert Spencer had similar theories about evolution to Darwin. Spencer is credited as a developer of the theory of evolution. It is said that he wrote about evolution even before Darwin, though some of his work is commentary of the theories of Darwin. For example, he coined the term survival of the fittest in reaction to On the Origin of Species by Darwin. Spencer also contributed to other fields. He was extremely influential during the early 1900s, but is now mostly only remembered for his thoughts on evolution.
