About Homi J. Bhabha
Homi Jehangir Bhabha is recognized in his home country as the “Father of the Indian nuclear program” due to his contribution to nuclear weapon development in India. The nuclear physicist was a professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) as well as its founding director. He also served as a founding director of the Atomic Energy Establishment, which is now known as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. The theories he is known for as a physicist include Bhabha Scattering, point particles and the theoretical prediction of Muon.
Family Life
He was born to lawyer Jehangir Hormusiji Bhabha and his wife, Meheren. He was a distant relative of Indian entrepreneurs Dorabji Tata and Dinshaw Maneckji Petit.
Achievements
He was a nominee for the Nobel Prize for Physics multiple times in the 1950s. He won the 1942 Adams Prize and was honored by the Indian government in 1954 with a Padma Bhushan.
Death
He died on January 24, 1966 in the Air India Flight 101 Crash.
