Background
This literary genius was born in 1940; sadly, he lost his family when his house was engulfed in fire. Prelutsky attended The High School of Music & Art, where he trained his voice, and in 1958, he enrolled in Hunter College but dropped out after two years.
Poet
Prelutsky loved to draw turtles and he was encouraged to publish his drawings which led to his first book “A Gopher in the Garden and Other Animal Poems” in 1967. Susan Hirschman became his publisher, and she was instrumental in his publications. Some of his works include; “Nightmares: Poems to Trouble Your Sleep”, “The Mean Old Mean Hyena”, and “Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant, and Other Poems”. This New York scholar was awarded the Washington Post Association Lifetime Achievement Award. His poem was also featured in an Apple’s commercial.
