About Joan Miró
Joan Miró was a renowned Spanish painter and sculptor known for works such as Portrait of Vincent Nubiola, The Farm and The Tilled Field. His works went a long way in influencing numerous abstract expressionist artists such as Jackson Pollock and Alexander Calder.
Family Life
He was born to Dolors Ferrà and Miquel Miró Adzerias. In 1929, he and Pilar Juncosa tied the knot. They had a daughter named Dolores in 1931. He and Pilar remained married until his death from heart failure in 1983.
Awards
Throughout his lifetime, he won a number of prestigious awards for his work, including the Guggenheim International Award in 1958.
Trivia
In 2012, his famous 1963 painting Peinture (Étoile Bleue), also known as Painting (Blue Star), sold at an auction for £23.5 million becoming his most expensive painting.
