About Johannes Vermeer

Johannes Vermeer was a celebrated Dutch painter whose paintings were mostly about domestic decorations of people in the middle class. His use and treatment of light to produce a masterpiece drove him to fame.

Vermeer was largely seen as a member of the “Dutch Golden Age” painters. Though much isn’t known about how he started his career, it is believed that he was trained by either Carel Fabritius, one of the famous Dutch artists, or Abraham Bloemaert.

Family

He was born to Reijnier Janszoon. He was married to Catharina Bolenes and they were blessed with 14 kids.

Trivia

His work titled “Girl with a Pearl Earring” was the inspiration behind Tracy Chevalier’s novel, which bears the same name.
