About John Hancock
He was an American statesman, merchant, and an influential figure during the American Revolution. John Hancock served as Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Having put to good use the mercantile business which he inherited from his uncle, he went on to become one of the wealthiest men in the Thirteen Colonies, prior to the American Revolution.
Family Life
He was born to Mary Hawke and Colonial American clergyman, John Hancock Jr. He was a brother to Mary, Ebenezer William, Eva, George, David and Lucy Hancock.
He got married to Dorothy Quincy in 1775, and they both stayed married for about 18 years, up until his death in the year 1793. His children are John George Washington Hancock and Lydia Henchman Hancock.
