About John Rzeznik
John Rzeznik is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is a founding member and lead guitarist of the famous rock band “Goo Goo Dolls.”
Background & Early Life
Rzeznik traces his origin to Buffalo, New York, and is of Polish descent. Both of his parents were musicians and instrumentalists. However, by age 15, he, unfortunately, lost them both.
He was a student of the Corpus Christi Grammar School and the McKinley Vocational High School. Rzeznik learned how to play the guitar in high school. He dropped out of Buffalo State College in his freshman year.
Career
Together with Robby Takac, they formed the “Goo Goo Dolls” band in 1985. Rzeznik has stated that an advert inspired in the “True Detective” magazine the band’s name. Celluloid records then signed them. The band released their eponymous debut album under Celluloid with a budget of $ 750. Metal Blade Records later signed them. AS of 2021, they had released over ten successful albums and embarked on many tours.
Rzeznik wrote the lyrics of the soundtrack to the 1998 hit movie City of Angels. In addition, he also wrote “I’m Still Here” for Disney’s “Treasure Planet.”
He became a Songwriter Hall of Famer in June 2008 and went on to win the “Hal David Starlight Award.”
