Depp was born on June 9, 1963, in Kentucky, but grew up in Florida, where he quit school at 15 to front several small bands. However, it was a chance meeting with actor Nicholas Cage years later that gave him his Hollywood break with his debut in the 1984 horror movie classic "Nightmare on Elm Street".

Career Highlights

He is one of the most famous and well-paid actors of his era and he has won a Golden Globe. He rose to fame through the TV series 21 Jump Street and he is a frequent collaborator with Hollywood’s greatest story teller, Tim Burton. One of his most recognizable roles is Captain Jack Sparrow from “The Pirates Of The Caribbean” movies.

Apart from his movie career he started a second one, as a musician, in 1995 which was not as successful.

Personal Life

Throughout his career, Depp has had a slew of relationships, including two different marriages to Lori Anne Allison and Amber Heard. He also had two children, Jack and Lily-Rose, with his previous long-term partner, Vanessa Paradis. Depp and Heard divorced in 2017 following allegations of physical abuse against him.

Legal Issues

In 2022, he was embroiled in a highly-publicized 6-week defamation trial against his ex-wife Heard. A jury later ruled that Heard defamed Depp in her 2018 Washington Post op-ed on domestic abuse.
