About Kristen Pfaff
Kristen Marie Pfaff nee Parco was an American bass guitarist with the indie rock band “Hole” in the early 1990s. She was the leading vocalist and bassist for her own band “Janitor Joe'' and was due to go on tour when she was found dead due to heroin overdose.
Family and Background
Her parents divorced when she was a toddler and was adopted by her mother’s husband, Norman Ptaff. She grew up with two younger brothers.
She attended Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Buffalo, New York Catholic school. She began her university education at Boston College but ended up graduating from the University of Minnesota, where she majored in Women’s Studies.
Career
Growing up, Kristen Pfaff’s passion for music was evident for everyone to see. She loved music as a child and took piano and cello lessons.
In 1991, she formed "Janitor Joe" with guitarist/vocalist Joachim Breuer and drummer Matt Entsminger. "Janitor Joe" released their first album titled "Big Metal Birds" in 1992. A year later, she was hired as a bassist for the alternative rock band “Hole”. She also served as a songwriter.
Death
After several trips in and out rehab, Kristen was found dead in her San Francisco Apartment by a friend. The rock musician died June 16, 1994, aged 27. A bag full of syringes and assorted drugs were found on her apartment floor. Following police investigation, it was revealed that “Acute opiate intoxication” was the cause of the musician’s death.
Posthumous Acknowledgement
"My Body, the Hand Grenade", Hole's 1997 retrospective compilation, was used to honor Kristen Pfaff.
She was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame on October 20, 1994.

Her biological father was Mike Parco.
Having majored in Women’s Studies in college, Kristen Pfaff worked with organizations that provided help to rape victims.
