Early Life
Briggs was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania as the daughter of a steel mill worker. She found her singing talent while in the school band at Allentown Central Catholic High School. Unable to attend college, she worked as a truck driver and welder to finance her newly formed band.
Career
Discovered by a talent scout, Briggs launched her solo career in 1954 by signing for Epic Records and releasing her first single, “I Want You to Be My Baby”. The single went platinum and peaked on the Billboard hot 100 charts at Number 18. She went on to headline shows in Las Vegas, made television appearances, and performed at the United Nations with her signature trombone in hand. In her later life, she became a successful real estate guru and mingled with top celebrities.
Death
She died of lung cancer in 1998.

A compilation of her music was posthumously released in 2013 by a London-based record label, Jasmine Records.
