About Linus Pauling
Linus Carlos Pauling is regarded as one of the best scientists in history. He was a chemist, chemical engineer, biochemist, peace activist and author. He made significant contributions to the branches of molecular biology and quantum physics. In his activism, he campaigned against nuclear weapon development and criticized the Vietnam War.
Family Life
He was the son of Lucy Isabelle Darling and Herman Henry William. He had two siblings; Pauline and Lucille. He was married to Ava Helen Miller from 1923 until 1981 when she died. Their children are Linda Helen, biologist Edward Crellin, crystallographer Peter and psychiatrist Linus Carl Jr.
Honors
He is one of the few individuals to have won more than one Nobel Prize. In 1954, he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Then, in 1962, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his peace activism.
He was honored with the National Medal of Science in 1974. Other honors include the NAS Award in Chemical Sciences and the Roebling Medal.
Death
He died at 93 from prostate cancer on August 19, 1994.
