About Louise Bogan
Louise Bogan was the first female to be named as the United States Poet Laureate. In 1923, she published her maiden poetry collection titled “Body of This Death”. The American writer went on to produce quite a number of works with the most popular ones titled “The Blue Estuaries: Poems” and “Collected Poems: 1923–1953”.
Her poems were featured in many publications including Poetry: A Magazine of Verse, Atlantic Monthly, and The New Republic.
Family
She divorced Corporal Curt Alexander before marrying Raymond Holden in 1943. The writer had a daughter named Maidie Alexander.
Education
Bogan developed a love for poetry during her time at Girls' Latin School. She later moved to Boston University.
Achievements
She received prizes from institutions like the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Academy of American Poets. Yale University honored her with their Bollingen Prize in 1955.
