He was born Marcello Vincenzo Domenico Mastrojanni. He was an actor and film producer, well known for the award winning film "The Sweet Life" (1960).
Early Life & Background
This star was born in Fontana Liri in Italy however his family soon relocated to Turin after which they relocated to Rome. He was able to escape from a German prison camp during world war two to hide in Venice. He made his first appearance in films as an extra in Marionnette (1939). He worked for the Italian department of “Eagle Lion Films” and became a member of a drama club. He was discovered at the drama club by director Luchino Visconti. He received his real breakthrough in 1960 when he was cast by Federico Fellini in “La Dolce Vita” (1960).
Awards
He received nominations for the Golden Globe Award in 1978 for “Best Actor-Motion Picture- Drama” for “A Special Day” and the Academy Award in 1977 for “Best Actor”, also for the said project.
Family
Marcello married Flora Carabella in 1950. The couple remained married until his passing in 1996. They had one child.
