Mary Frances Luecke was an American actress. She is known for playing Joanna Loudon in the popular TV sitcom “Newhart” throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.
Early Years
As a young girl, Frann became a child model, acting in several TV commercials. When she was 18, she was voted America’s Junio Miss before attending Northwestern University to study drama. While in college, Frann worked as a weather reporter before dropping out and moving to Chicago to work as a morning show co-host. A few years later, she made her TV debut in an episode of “Kraft Suspense Theatre.” Two years later, she appeared in her first movie “Nashville Rebel.”
Career in Film
Frann moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her acting career. She was cast in “Days of Our Lives” from 1974-1979, and also guest-starred in several TV shows, including “Fantasy Island”, “Hawaii Five-O”, and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”. She co-hosted both Miss America and Miss Universe pageants in 1986 and 1987 respectively, and was actively involved in a number of charities.
Personal Life and Death
Frann married talent agent, T.J. Escott in 1973. They divorced ten years later. In September 1998, she died in her sleep. A later autopsy revealed she had died from a heart attack and other heart complications.
