Beginning 1959, she worked as the editor at New Directions Publishing in New York for seven years and published a memoir for New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy named “The Lowering”.
She is credited with writing a number of poems, including “Collected Poems” (2013), “New & Selected Things Taking Place” (1978) , “Half Sun Half Sleep” (1967) and “More Poems to Solve”.
Honors
The poetry writer was the recipient of many awards, including the William Rose Benet Prize given by the Poetry Society of America in 1959 and the National Institute of Arts and Letters Award in 1960.
She was also awarded the Brandeis University Creative Arts Award in 1967.
