She was born to Steve and Marguerite Duke Doolittle.
Education
She studied at Union High School and graduated in 1995. She majored in music at Belmont University, Nashville, Tennessee.
American Idol and Other Highlights
She began singing from seventh grade but only began her professional career in 1999 after she auditioned for “American Idol”, singing “For Once in My Life” by Stevie Wonder. She made it to the semi-final with performances such as “Sweet Sweet Baby (Since You’ve Been Gone) by Aretha Franklin and “My Funny Valentine” originally by Mitzi Green. The latter performance was a win according to the judges. Doolittle was among the Top 12 contestants of the show by march, 8, 2007. After reaching the finals, she was eliminated on May 16, 2007, finishing in third place.
Post- American Idol, the singer released, “Coming Back to You” in 2009. She also released EPs “Melinda Doolittle” and “You’re the Reason” in 2007 and 2013 respectively.
Writing
In her book “Beyond Me: Finding Your Way to Life's Next Level “, Doolittle narrates her experiences prior, during and after American Idol. The book was released on April 20, 2010.
