He co-created the police comedy series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine alongside Daniel J. Goor.

He was born to Warren M. Schur and Anne Herbert. He has had a son named William Xavier Schur and a daughter named Ivy Elizabeth Schur, from his marriage to J.J. Phiblin in 2005.
