Nick Garcia is a retired American professional soccer player. He had a unique ability to play in all defensive positions on the field except as a goalie. Garcia played in the Major League Soccer (MLS) for eleven years and recorded various caps for the USA under-17, under-20 and senior national teams.
Background, Youth & College Career
He was born in Plano, Texas. Garcia is an alumnus of Bishop Lynch High School. During his senior and junior years at Bishop Lynch, he helped them win back-to-back “TAPPS soccer championships (boys)” in 1996 & 1997.
He played for Dallas Texans in his youth, winning the “Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year” in 1997. He also played soccer for Indiana University, helping them win back-to-back “NCCA Division I” titles in 1998 & 1999.
Professional Career Highlights
After signing a professional contract with MLS in 2000, the Kansas City Wizards picked him as their second overall during the SuperDraft. He earned 224 appearances and scored one goal for Kansas during his seven-year career with the team. During this spell, he also won the 2000 “MLS Cup” and the 2004 “Lamar Hunt Open Cup”.
In 2008, he captained the “San Jose Earthquakes” in the MLS and signed with “Toronto FC” in 2009. He also won the 2009 and 2010 Canadian Championships with Toronto.
