Personal Life
He was the son of Ida and Simon Brook who were both Litvaks. His name at birth was Peter Stephen Paul Brook. He had an older brother who was also in the mental health sector and worked as a psychotherapist and psychiatrist. He made Natasha Parry, an actress, his wife in 1951 and together, they had two children before she passed away, after suffering from a stroke.
Career
In 1943, he worked on “Dr Faustus” as a director and went on to work on “The Infernal Machine”. He later worked on “Salome”. Not long after, he partnered with the writer Jean-Claude Carriere and converted the Indian Poem titled "Mahābhārata" into a play. They went further to convert it into a mini series. It was criticized by some people even though it was good. Some stated that the remakes did not really have the Indian feel to it and others said it was not as original as the poem. He later released “Battlefield”.
Other productions he worked on include “A View from the Bridge”, “A Penny for a Song” and “Mesure pour mesure”.
