About Randy Pausch
Randy Pausch left a legacy through his immense contribution to the fields of computer science and human-computer interaction.
After receiving his computer science PhD degree in 1988 from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), he became an educator in the school’s computer science department.
Along with his work as a professor, he is also known for having created Alice (an educational programming language), his battle with pancreatic cancer, and his final CMU lecture, “The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”.
Personal Life
He was raised in Columbia, Maryland, where he attended Oakland Mills High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University. He received a diagnosis for pancreatic cancer in 2006.
Achievements
He was honored with the Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award, and made the Time 100 list in 2008.
Death
He died on July 25, 2008 from pancreatic cancer.
