About Simon Phillips
Simon Phillips is an English drummer, songwriter and record producer who is based in the United States. He specializes in the pop, jazz and rock genres. At just 12 years old, he made his professional debut in a jazz band, for which he would end up playing for four years.
In the 1970s and 1980s, he played for several rock bands during studio sessions and tours. Upon invitation, he became a member of the American rock band, Toto, in 1992 and performed with them until 2014, when he left to dedicate time to his solo career.
Family Life
His father was Isador Simon “Sid” Phillips, an English jazz clarinettist, arranger and bandleader. The elder Phillips’ band was the first professional band in which the younger one played.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the Modern Drummer Magazine Hall of Fame. He has been the recipient of an Annual Independent Music Award.
Trivia
Acts he has recorded in the studio with include The Who, Jeff Beck, Bernie Marsden, Gary Moore, Nik Kershaw, Michael Schenker and Tears for Fears.
