About Simona Halep
She is a world renowned Romanian who has made a name for herself on the tennis field.
Personal Life
She was born to a footballer father and has an older brother by name Nicolae. Her father later worked as a technician. His father was a good player and believed he would have had a better chance if his parents had been able to support him so he put in effort in his children’s dreams to see how far they could go.
Simona started playing when she was just four years old. Not long after, her brother left the sports but she kept going and getting better. She played handball and football too even though tennis was the game she liked most.
Career
She joined the ITF Junior Circuit in 2005 and became winner of all the ITF single events she participated in. In 2006, she started playing for ITF Women’s Circuit professionally and in 2011, she started playing WTA Tour Events.
Simona has been in the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open and has been named the World No. 1 with regards to singles by the Women’s Tennis Association in 2017 and 2019.
