About Steve Kanaly
Steven Kanaly is an American actor. His acting career, which is best known for his performance in CBS TV series “Dallas”, was influenced by Broadway actress Barbara Bel Geddes.
Education and Acting Career
He graduated from Van Nuys High School and California State University, Northridge. He was the infantry radio operator in the First Air Cavalry Division in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He recorded his encounter in the war which was adopted by John Milius in the 1979 psychological war film “Apocalypse Now”.
He played Ray Krebbs in David Jacobs’s CBS series “Dallas”. In the series, he starred alongside a host of performers, including Barbara Bel Geddes, Jim Davis, Larry Hagman, Victoria Principal, and Susan Howard.
He was cast again as Ray Krebbs in “Dallas: War of the Ewings”, “Dallas Reunion: The Return to Southfork”, 2004 and again in the 2012/2014 TNT revival of the series, appearing in four episodes.
In 1979, he was a guest star in “Time Express”, an American fantasy drama series created by Ben Roberts and Ivan Goff.
He was cast as Seabone in the mid-1990s ABC drama series “All my Children”.
Kanaly's other film credits include “Big Wednesday”, “The Wind and the Lion” and “Dillinger”. He has also appeared in “Double Trouble”, “Trabbi Goes to Hollywood”, and “The Wind and the Lion”.
Trivia
He was originally cast as Bobby Ewing on “Dallas” before being given the role of Ray Krebbs.
Outside his acting, Kanaly and Susan Howard promoted responsible ownership of firearms in NRA commercials in 1992.
