About Teri Garr
Although Teri Garr began playing small film and television roles in the early 1960s, it was not until she appeared in a 1968 episode of “Star Trek” that she was taken seriously within the industry as an actress. With appearances in more than 140 productions, she acted until her retirement in 2011.
Many of the films she starred in were of the comedy genre, notable amongst them being “Young Frankenstein”, “After Hours”, “Tootsie” and “Mr. Mom”. She was also featured frequently as a guest on “Late Night with David Letterman” and “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”.
Family Life
Her parents, Phyllis and Eddie Garr, worked in the entertainment industry as an actor and dancer/wardrobe mistress, respectively. She had long-term relationships with physician David Kipper and filmmaker Roger Birnbaum. She was married to John O’Neil from 1983 to 1990.
Achievements
She received an Academy Award nomination for “Best Actress” for her performance in “Tootsie”.
Trivia
She protested against nuclear weapons testing in Mercury, Nevada, in March 1988.
