About The Big Bopper
The Big Bopper was the stage name of Jiles Perry Richardson Jr., a singer, songwriter, musician and disc jockey.
Despite his short-lived career, he made a name for himself in the rock and roll music genre and left behind a legacy through his popular compositions, “White Lightning” and “Chantilly Lace”.
Before becoming known for his music, he had worked on radio as a disc jockey.
Family Life
His father, Jiles Perry Richardson, was an oil-field worker. His mother’s name was Elise Stalsby. He was raised along with two brothers.
In 1952, he married Adrianne Joy Fryou, with whom he had a daughter and a son, who was born two months after he died.
Achievements
He is a member of the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
Death
He died aged 28 on 24 October 1930 from a plane crash, which also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly.
