About Thomas Kuhn
Thomas Kuhn was an American philosopher who specialized in the philosophy of science and the history of science. His best-known work is the book, “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions”, which was published in 1962 and went on to influence both academia and popular spheres. He is also famous for the theories/concepts of paradigm shift, normal science, incommensurability and transcendental nominalism.
Family Life
Both his mother, Minette Stroock and his industrial engineer father, Samuel Kuhn were Jewish. He had three children with his first wife, Kathryn Muhs. He later married Jehane Barton Burns after his divorce.
Education
He attended Harvard College, where he earned his BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Physics. For eight years (1948-1956), he taught history of science at his alma mater.
Achievements
He was the recipient of the 1982 George Sarton Medal.
Death
He died in 1996, two years after he received a lung cancer diagnosis.
