About Warren Christopher
As a trained lawyer, Warren Christopher began his practice with the international law firm known as O'Melveny & Myers. In 1967, he was appointed as the United States’ Deputy Attorney General and served in that capacity for two years.
During the Jimmy Carter-led regime, this popular American politician was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of State, a position he held between 1977 and 1981. He held different political positions before he was appointed as the U.S. Secretary of State in 1993.
During his four years in office, he helped to end the infamous the Bosnian War by negotiating for the Dayton Agreement. He was also key in ending the conflict between Israel and Palestine. However, Christopher was heavily criticized for failing to stop the Rwandan Genocide.
Family
He was raised by his parents Ernest William Christopher and Catherine Anne Lemen. His first marriage to Joan Southgate Workman ended in 1955. The following year, he tied the knot with Marie Wyllis. He had four kids from his two marriages.
Education
Before joining the University of Redlands, he studied at Hollywood High School. He later enrolled at the University of Southern California. Christopher had his training at Stanford Law School.
Trivia
He was named as the chairman of the commission that investigated the Rodney King police brutality in 1991.
The following year, he led Bill Clinton’s transition process.
He joined the U.S Naval Reserve in 1943.
