About Zack Wheat
Zack Wheat was an exceptional baseball player, mostly known for his time with the Brooklyn Dodgers. As of 2022, he remains the only Dodgers player with the most hits, total bases, doubles, and triples.
Professional Career
The Missouri native made his professional baseball debut in 1909 with the Dodgers. He stayed with the team for 18 seasons, helping them win the National League pennants in 1916 and 1920.
He spent his 19th season playing for the Philadelphia Athletics before playing for the Minneapolis Millers in the minor league.
Retirement & Death
Following his retirement, he became a business owner, as well as a police officer. He died in 1972 of a heart attack.
Accomplishments
Wheat was the NL batting champion of 1918. In 1959, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was featured in the 1981 book, “The 100 Greatest Baseball Players of All Time.”
