She was born in Westminster, London. Alice was the fourth child of former Christ Church's ecclesiastical dean Henry Liddell and Lorina Hanna Liddell.

Origin of "Alice in Wonderland"
On July 4, 1862, Alice, her sister (Edith and Lorina), and Lewis Carroll embarked on a boat travel tour from Folly Bridge to Godstow. During their journey, Lewis Carroll entertained the girls with his fantastic stories. Among them was the story of a girl named Alice and her various adventures after she sadly fell into a giant rabbit hole. The girls loved the story, and Liddell asked Lewis Carroll to document the story and give her its manuscript.
In 1866, the original manuscript Lewis Carroll gave to Liddell was published as "Alice's Adventures Under Ground."
