About Arne Naess Jr.
The late Arne Naess Jr., born Arne Rudolf Ludvig Raab, was an entrepreneur who loved mountaineering. He worked with his uncle Erling Dekke Naess from 1964, learning the shipping business from him before setting up a business of his own in 1968 in London.
He was also a successful real estate investor and oil magnate. He rose to fame in the mid-1980s not for his wealth, but for his marriage to American legendary singer, Diana Ross.
Family Life
He was born to August Oskar German Raab and Kirsten Dekke Naess. His maternal uncle is Arne Naess, a Norwegian mountaineer and philosopher. After his parents’ divorce in the 1940s, he moved to Norway with his mother.
Relationships, Marriages & Children
Before meeting Ross, he was divorced from his Swedish ex-wife, Filippa Kumlin d’Orey with whom he had three children. He and Ross had two sons before their 1999 divorce. As of his death, he had two more sons with his Norwegian partner, Camila Astrup.
Death
He fell to his death in January 2004 while descending the South African mountain, Groot Drakenstein. He had previously ascended Mount Everest in 1985.
