About Ben E. King
Ben E. King was a North Carolina-born soul, R&B and pop singer who became famous for the hit song of 1961 titled "Stand by Me". In addition to singing, the American star also had a huge influence on the music industry through writing and producing songs.
He also gained notability as a lead singer of the soul collective named The Drifters. With the group, King was part of their successful hit single "Save the Last Dance for Me" of 1960. He left the band that year and embarked on a solo career, releasing his first major hit in 1961 entitled "Spanish Harlem".
The R&B legend will also be remembered for other hits such as "Young Boy Blues", "Supernatural Thing", and "Amor".
Honors
King is an inductee of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his The Drifters band mates. In addition, he is also a North Carolina Music Hall of Famer.

During his active years, the singer worked with record labels like Atco Records and Atlantic Records.
His hit song “Stand by Me” was used in the theme song for Rob Reiner’s 1986 film of the same title. Its usage in the film made the song more popular.
