Background
Born André Robert Raimbourg, Bourvil took his stage name from his hometown Bourville. His father died during the First World War before he was born.
Acting Career
Bourvil was best known for playing naïve and happy-go-lucky characters in the comedies he starred in to the delight of many viewers. But he also demonstrated versatility, taking up more serious roles in dramas such as “L’Arbre de Noël” and in the film adaptation of the play “Les Misérables.” Throughout his career, he starred in over 40 films between 1942 and 1971.
Personal Life & Death
He married Jeanne Lefrique in 1943. Bourvil died in 1970 at the age of 53 after a long battle with Kahler’s syndrome.
