Background
Briann January was born in Washington to a karate instructor, who inspired her to pursue a career in sports. She was captain of the basketball team during her days at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington. She was featured in the 2008 edition of “Sports Illustrated” alongside NBA star James Harden when she played for Arizona State University.
Career Highlights
January was the sixth overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2009 drafts. She ended her rookie season playing 33 games and went all the way to the 2009 WNBA Finals. In 2012, she became a WNBA champion with Indiana and was named to the All-Star team in 2014.
This 2022 EuroLeague champion played briefly with the Phoenix Mercury in 2018, she moved to the Connecticut Sun and eventually moved to the Seattle Storm in 2022.
Trivia
January decided to give back during her off-season to mentor young players at Adelphi University and her alma mater Arizona State University.
