About Charles Brickley
As a football player, Charles Brickley recorded most of his successes at the college level. In 1912, he helped Harvard College to win the national championship. He was used as a placekicker or fullback. He also played for teams like New York Brickley Giants, and Massillon Tigers.
However, Brickley was best known for his time as a coach. He started his career as an assistant at the University of Virginia. He later moved to Johns Hopkins University before joining Boston College in 1916. Five years later, he was named as the head coach of his former team, the New York Brickley Giants.
Legal Issues
Brickley was caught at the wrong side of the law on many occasions. In 1928, he was charged with bucketing and larceny. He was imprisoned in March that year, but was released nine months later. He was again arrested in 1949 after he was involved in a fight.
Family
He was the brother of baseball player George Brickley. The football star had another brother named Arthur Brickley. He had two kids called John Brickley and Charles Brickley, Jr. He was the granduncle of hockey player Andy Brickley.
Trivia
Brickley was also a triple jump athlete and competed in the Summer Olympics in 1912.
Until 1949, he worked as an advertising salesman, stockbroker, and shipbuilder.
