About Chesty Puller
Chesty Puller was a United States Marine Corps commander known for his valor during a number of wars, most notably World War II and the Korean War, for which he received several military decorations and awards. He ended up going down in history as America’s most-decorated Marine.
Trivia
He was portrayed by actor William Sadler in the 2010 American television series The Pacific.
For his extraordinary heroism in battles, he received five Navy Crosses and a U.S. Army Distinguished Service Cross.
His son Lewis Burwell Puller Jr. also became a Marine and fought in the Vietnam War, in which he lost both legs and a hand. Chesty wept bitterly upon seeing his son’s condition for the first time.
